Photogrammetry
The Villa Guardamangia gardens were scanned using drone aerial photogrammetry and processed to achieve a 3D mesh of the current state of the site at a real-life scale.

3D Reconstruction
Making use of archival photos for reference and the accurate photogrammetry scan, a faithful reconstruction of the gardens was constructed. Balustrades and iron work where also recreated from existing fragments.

Visualisation
The 3D model was textured and embellished with vegetation following archival references to re-create the atmosphere of the garden as it was in Queen Elizabeth’s time. Accurate lighting was added to create a cinematic fly-through of the model to showcase in a public open day.

VR experience
The whole environment was then optimised to run on a VR device giving a first-person experience with users being able to virtually explore the gardens in their pristine condition.
